BP Regional ITT Benchmarking

The BP Digital Business Department (IT) leading the regional agenda was interested in a benchmarking to compare the internal performance with no only other BP DB departments across the globe but also other DB Departments in similar energy sector companies. The consultancy work started with existing KPIs and indicators being used at the moment, which had to be slightly modified to have real comparison and valuable conclusions. The gap analysis was performed after this evaluation so that BP DB could clearly identify not only those areas subject to improvement but also those ready to be shared as lessons learned with other business units. The areas to improve generated specific projects and or internal activities with timelines and goals very tied up to the business unit performance agenda.

BP regional X-stream synergies

Having different stream businesses (Exploration, Fuel & Lubricants, Solar, Air, Marine, etc) as well as Castrol retail sites across the latin-american region, BP Digital Business (IT) wanted to identify cost saving opportunities as well as reduce the duplication of infrastructure, facilitate consolidation of redundant systems and services, etc. S4biz developed a strategy thru our methodology and completed an initial assessment of current situation, ultimate goal, and consequently gap analysis and opportunities to bring value based on a very cost-effective approach. The report, after completion of this consulting work, provided BP DB with a roadmap for the:

•  Short term (3 month) period aiming to get done quick wins and attractive results,

•  Mid term (6 months) to facilitate consolidation and integration of infrastructure and business processes components suitable for re-utilization, and

•  Long term vision in terms of higher effort driven initiatives with potential impact in other business areas.

Tactical plans would derive from this report so that projects and internal activities could conduct the agenda in a timely and effective manner.

BP Regional Telecommunications Consulting and Communication Plan

•  S4B provided consulting support to the BP Regional Telecommunications manager (scope from Mexico thru Argentina including the Caribbean ) to prepare executive summaries and presentations that helped in the internal marketing of achievements, recognition of this accomplishments by other business units.

•  The consulting work exploited the available financial data and generated performance indicators to demonstrate the achievement of specific goals in terms of impact to the business, cost savings, investment optimization, and return.

A strategic plan including roadmap was also developed to help BP Telecomunications create an agenda in the mid and long term. Exit plans were also developed including risks analysis to determine whether the telecommunication providers market was ready or not to provide high standard services to BP at any point in time across the region, leveraging in geographical presence, reliability, clients, track records, and other important indicators.

BP Southern Cone (Argentina) VP Office build-out

•  BP planned to have a Regional Office for high profile executives including the regional Vice-President and public relationships roles. Argentina , and specifically Buenos Aires , was selected as the preferred location to build this office. At the moment, BP only had approx 4 full time positions and physical work desks within a local business partner company's premises (Pan American Energy) based in Buenos Aires . BP selected a new location for the offices with capacity for 25-35 users approx and contracted both local construction services and s4biz project management services to coordinate the design and execution.

•  S4B/IMP managed a multi-disciplinary team (Networking, Telecommunications, Desktop, Printing, Office Suppliers, Cabling, Multi-media and Audio Visual capabilities, etc) and coordinated design and execution thru the usage of methodologies and strict project plans. The economic crash of the Argentinean economy severely impacted the starting of the project after a 300% devaluation and total crash of imports into the country. S4biz along with the bp project team managed to get the required infrastructure –within the expected quality for a VP office- not only in a timely manner but also under budget.

Capacity to select and use the best and most reliable, flexible regional and local suppliers, team working, commitment, and appropriate risk mitigation was key to deliver the office on time and within budget expectations.

BP Trinidad Third-Party Connectivity (Extranet) Project

•  S4b managed the project to implement a third-party connectivity environment to allow bp and non-bp users get access to shared data and network services in a very controlled fashion. This would allow also the business to reduce cost in laptop & desktop count for contractors and rather allow contractors connect their own equipment to the network.

•  The Project required s4biz to manage the assessment of needs, build business case, aligned both our client's and s4biz methodologies, conduct peer assists and reviews with other bp sites in the world (US, UK, Asia) to re-use lessons learned and provide a solution matching the long term vision of the business.

S4B leveraged on local content contractors to deploy the infrastructure as well as developed a support model for transitioning the project to the local Operations team. The project was delivered within timing constrains and under budget.

BP Trinidad DCT Operations Manager Service

S4B was requested to temporary fill an internal DCT (IT) Operational Manager position at bp Trinidad after having onboard a full time Telecommunications Manager and also help in the selection and recruiting process to fill in the position in the long term. S4biz help bp Trinidad tune the established roles and responsibilities for the position as well as interaction with other internal roles. S4biz had full time resources onsite conducting weekly meetings, assessing service needs, revising service desk performance, coaching the staff, and taking actions to improve service levels and customer satisfaction surveys. The interim role required also interaction with other peers (Local Operational Managers at every country) as well as regional operational roles within the corporation.

The consulting work also delivered a strategic plan for handling vendors, reporting processes, metrics, and additional assurance support to recruit the full time resource to fill in the position in the long term.

BP Trinidad Office Expansion Project (OEP) - DCT Management Phase III

BP Trinidad contracted S4B project management and consulting services to support the Office Expansion Project, which main objective was to fit-out office space for approx 450 users including all the technology required. BP managed the scope of the project internally including design, construction, and technology. S4B played an internal bp Project Management role to manage and assure that the technology scope was to be delivered in a timely manner while mitigating risks and under very constrained budget conditions. Phases I and II of the macro project were already delivered at the moment S4B was incorporated to do the work but still snag lists and pending issues from previous phases were severely impacting the normal progress of phase III. The scope of work was successfully finally delivered and closed out by not only implementing the required services but also relocating successfully 450 users in a 3 day weekend.

BP Trinidad HVC Datacenter Move and 5 th floor Decommissioning

On the progress to relocate all Port Of Spain users, bp Trinidad decided to give up one of two (2) floors in a temporary location after the users were successfully moved across via the OEP project. However, the datacenter serving both floors and directly connected to the rest of the bp network was on the same floor to give up. S4B was contracted to assess the situation, provide with options and risk analysis, cost-benefit reports and scenario planning, and manage the execution of both the floor decommissioning and relocation of the datacenter over a 3 day weekend. The Project was delivered ahead of schedule, within budget constrains, and no impact to the operations.

BP Trinidad Constellation Platform Security and Extranet access

BP Trinidad Exploration Performance Unit brought onboard an offshore drilling platform requiring very unique services in terms of access to extranet connectivity to provide third-party access to drilling data both via Local Area Network and across the internet from the platform. S4B provided services thru a business partner –IPM- to manage the security/firewall and connectivity part of the scope. The project provided with the required technical design and recommendations as well with the timely execution, delivery and under budget constrains.

BP Passport Explorer Europe

BP Passport Explorer, an extensive software migration program needed to be established on BP´s head quarter in Spain . Before S4B was called in to help, , the affectivity rate of migration was 2 PCs per week, which was not a very profitable outcome. Once S4B was called in the game a 44 PCs migrated per week was the expected goal. Applying the S4B factor the project ended with a 55 PC succesfully migrated per week rate.
